Peace Corps Director Carrie Hessler-Radelet Ends Term

Carrie Hessler-Radelet speaks with FIU students excited about Peace Corps

Carrie Hessler-Radelet, appointed by President Barack Obama to lead the Peace Corps as Director in 2013, ended her term of service this January.  In an email announcement, Hessler-Radelet said, “the magic of Peace Corps depends on collaboration and on the will and spirit of each person to be of service to the world.”

FIU’s Global Learning for Global Citizenship initiative is designed to equip every undergraduate student with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to engage in global changemaking, including through our Peace Corps Prep program.

In October 2014, Hessler-Radelet visited FIU’s Modesto A. Maidique campus to celebrate the launch of Peace Corps Prep, as well as the consistently strong numbers of alumni Peace Corps Volunteers (see photos).  In addition, Hessler-Radelet’s university relations staff have welcomed groups of FIU students to the Peace Corps main office in Washington, D.C. each subsequent summer to learn more about the agency and related careers in international development.
