These conferences are integral to our office’s mission of maintaining FIU’s reputation as a national leader in global learning and offering accessible faculty and staff development opportunities.
Institute of International Education Best Practices Conference
March 13-14, 2017 in Miami, FL
The Institute of International Education will host the Annual Best Practices in Internationalization Conference at FIU this March. Leading experts in the field and the winners of the 2017 Andrew Heiskell Awards for Innovation in International Education will present successful models and strategies for internationalizing the campus. The conference will focus on themes such as internationalization strategies, expanding participation in study abroad, and building international partnerships. There will be optional pre-conference roundtables and a networking reception held the day before the main conference on Monday, March 13, 2017.
In 2016, FIU’s Global Learning for Global Citizenship initiative was recognized as a co-winner of the Heiskell Award for ‘Internationalizing the Campus.’

Comparative and International Education Society Annual Meeting
March 5-9, 2017 in Atlanta, GA
The Comparative and International Education Society (CIES) Annual Meeting is a gathering of Society members and the interested public for an academic research conference devoted to scholarly and practical exchange as well as debate and networking. This year’s conference theme is “Problematizing (In)Equality: The Promise of Comparative and International Education.” CIES was founded in 1956 to foster cross-cultural understanding, scholarship, academic achievement and societal development through the international study of educational ideas, systems, and practices. The Society’s members include over 3000 academics, students, practitioners, and policymakers from around the world.
FIU recently became the headquarters for CIES when Hilary Landorf was appointed its Executive Director, Mariusz Galczynski was named its Managing Director, and CIES’s administrative office moved to the university’s Office of Global Learning Initiatives.
