Global Learning & FIU Bike Shop Collecting Bikes for Refugees

This semester, the FIU community is helping CWS Miami collect bikes for newly arriving refugees who will soon call South Florida their new home. Please help us by donating a new or gently used bike to meet this tremendous cause. We are also accepting cash and check donations to be used toward new bikes. A bike can be an essential means of transportation for newly arrived refugees who have come to the United States to start a new life. CWS Miami is currently resettling refugees from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, Burma, Iraq, Colombia, and Cuba.

“Bike Drive for Refugee Families” is being organized by the Office of Global Learning Initiatives and the Student Affairs Wellness and Recreation Center Bike Shop, for the duration of the Spring 2016 semester.  The offices have set a goal of providing 20 bikes to CWS Miami by the end of April.

Cash or check donations of any amount can be delivered to GL 466.  Checks should be made out to Church World Service.   New or gently used bikes can be brought to the FIU Bike Shop, located in the Recreation Trailer just west of Panther Garage.   Monetary donations will be used to purchase new bikes and to repair donated bikes, if necessary.

Online donations are now accepted at http://go.fiu.edu/bikedrive
